NLC President urges labour leaders to seek political power

Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has encouraged labour leaders to pursue political leadership roles. Speaking in Birnin Kebbi to the NLC National Administrative Council, Ajaero argued that former union leaders serving in government demonstrate the importance of having workers’ representation in positions of authority to influence policy and improve welfare.

During a dinner hosted by Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, Ajaero highlighted Idris as a model, noting his previous roles as Deputy National President and Acting President of the NLC. Ajaero expressed the NLC's intent to support more former labour leaders in entering political office and praised the security and peaceful environment of Kebbi State.

Governor Idris responded by stating that his background in the labour movement prepared him for governance. He dismissed negative reports regarding the state as opposition propaganda and emphasized the progress made by his administration, while calling for continued unity among labour leaders.
