NLEX tolls waived amid severe flooding in Pampanga

Severe flooding on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) has caused massive traffic congestion, with jams stretching up to 10 kilometers in both directions. The flooding, particularly near the Tulaoc Bridge in San Simon, Pampanga, was triggered by heavy rainfall from the “habagat” and the overflow of the Pampanga River.

In response to the gridlock, the Department of Transportation announced that NLEX tolls have been waived for all vehicles traveling between Pulilan, Bulacan, and San Fernando, Pampanga. NLEX Corp. stated that these toll credits will be applied directly to motorists’ RFID accounts the day after passage. Emergency teams have been deployed to manage water accumulation and assist stranded motorists, who have also been provided with food and drinking water.

San Miguel Corp. CEO Ramon Ang noted that the flooding is exacerbated by water released from the Pantabangan Dam in Nueva Ecija, which flows toward Manila Bay through Pampanga. The toll relief will remain in effect until road conditions return to normal.
