NMHH introduces bicycle-based mobile network measurements in Hungary

The National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) has developed a new mobile measurement capability to assess the availability and quality of broadband mobile services on bicycle paths and other routes inaccessible to motor vehicles.

This initiative aims to map approximately 4,000 kilometers of built bicycle networks in Hungary, including areas such as forests, river valleys, and sparsely populated outskirts. The methodology is technology-neutral, focusing on broadband service quality rather than specific technologies like 5G.

To launch the program, the authority held a professional measurement day where experts from Hungary’s three mobile service providers were introduced to the new methodology and equipment. The long-term goal is to expand the coverage database across the entire national bicycle network, with results intended for continuous publication.
