NMN and NAD+ precursors discussed for cellular health

Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) is gaining attention for its role in cellular energy production and metabolism. As NMN levels naturally decline with age, supplements are being used to support energy, cognitive function, and overall vitality.

While NMN is often discussed alongside NAD+ and NR, they are distinct compounds. NAD+ is a coenzyme essential for energy metabolism in every living cell, whereas NMN and NR act as precursor molecules that the body converts into NAD+. According to the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, while these compounds in the niacin family can all contribute to NAD+ synthesis, each has a unique structure and regulatory status.

It is noted that dietary supplements, including NAD+ precursors, have not been evaluated by the FDA for safety or effectiveness in diagnosing, treating, or preventing diseases. Individuals, particularly those with liver disease, cancer, or those who are pregnant or nursing, should consult healthcare providers before use.
