Nnamdi Azikiwe University suspends professor over misconduct

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has suspended Professor Ifeanyi Sunny Odinye of the Department of Chinese Studies for three months at half salary. The disciplinary action follows a preliminary report from a six-man special investigative panel regarding an incident involving a female student.

The panel indicted Odinye for violating university regulations by failing to properly document and report an examination misconduct case involving student Chikamso Favour Okechukwu. Additionally, the professor was found to have improperly returned a mobile phone recovered during the exam to the student on the same day.

The suspension follows a viral video showing Odinye being physically assaulted and stripped by students on campus. While the investigation into the lecturer's handling of academic misconduct is progressing, the university has deferred a final decision on allegations of sexual harassment and kidnapping, stating that further investigations are required to establish the facts.
