NNPC Ltd denies ownership of truck intercepted with cannabis

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has denied ownership of a truck intercepted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ondo State. The vehicle was found to be concealing 2,145kg of cannabis in a compartment.

NNPC Chief Corporate Communications Officer Andy Odeh stated that preliminary investigations show the truck, registration number MKA 960 XC, is not part of the company’s official fleet or owned by any authorized dealers. The company noted that the vehicle displayed an old logo that is inconsistent with its current official branding and does not appear in the company’s asset database.

NNPC is currently engaging with the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) to determine how the company’s former branding was used on the vehicle. The company expressed its commitment to protecting its corporate identity and stated it will cooperate fully with the NDLEA and other security agencies to investigate the incident. NNPC also indicated it is reviewing brand-protection protocols and may pursue legal action against the unauthorized use of its identity.
