NNPP rejects backdating resignations of elected officials

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced it will not backdate the resignations of elected officials who left the party without completing required constitutional procedures. The party warned that attempting to falsify records to alter resignation dates is tantamount to criminality.

This stance follows a letter sent by the NNPP to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on October 19. The correspondence stated that Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, two senators, 18 members of the House of Representatives, and 28 members of the Kano State House of Assembly—all elected on the NNPP platform in 2023—failed to comply with the prescribed legal requirements for terminating their membership.

NNPP Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, stated that the party will not yield to pressure to accommodate those seeking to rectify their incomplete exits. He noted that while the party respects the right of individuals to choose their political affiliations, the proper documentation process must be followed according to the NNPP Constitution.
