US communities launch nonpartisan early voting initiatives
Various nonpartisan organizations and local communities across the United States are launching initiatives to encourage early voting and voter participation ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
A national day of action titled ‘No Kings: Vote Early’ is scheduled for October 17. This initiative, coordinated by a coalition including Indivisible, the ACLU, and the League of Women Voters, focuses on neighborhood-level activities such as block parties, rallies, and voter registration drives. Events are planned in multiple regions, including San Diego County, New Jersey, Vermont, and Alexandria.
In North Carolina, the group Influence NC is hosting ‘Party2ThePolls’ events at various college campuses to assist students with transportation and voting information following the removal of several campus early voting sites. Similarly, in Massachusetts, Suffolk University students organized a campus scavenger hunt to educate peers on ballot questions.
Local early voting schedules are also being implemented in cities such as Revere and Boston, where voters can access multiple locations to cast ballots for federal and state offices, as well as various statewide ballot questions.
