No Man's Sky receives massive Cosmos update for 10th anniversary

Hello Games has released the Cosmos update (version 7.0) for No Man's Sky, marking the tenth anniversary of the title. This free update introduces significant changes to space exploration and player agency.

Key features include the ability for players to act as Station Directors, allowing them to purchase, customize, and manage their own space stations. The update also introduces Galactic Alliances, enabling players to form groups, design banners, and compete on global leaderboards. Base building has been expanded to allow for free-floating modular bases in open space and structures built directly onto asteroids.

Exploration mechanics have been overhauled with a new star system map and various deep-space points of interest, such as derelict shipwrecks, infested outposts, and asteroid belts containing rare resources. Players can now also attempt to fly directly toward stars. To celebrate the decade of development, the “Our Journey Continues” expedition is available, revisiting major milestones from the game's history since 2016.

Technical improvements include updated rendering for planetary terrain, enhanced particle lighting, and improved cloud rendering. For PC users, the update adds support for Intel XeSS 3 and Nvidia DLSS 4.5, as well as foveated rendering for VR.
