no na releases music video ahead of debut album ‘Island Girl’
Indonesian girl group no na has released a nearly 15-minute music video titled ‘speaker freaker (the long song)’ to preview their debut album, ‘Island Girl,’ which is scheduled for release on September 18. Released under the 88rising label, the audio-visual project features eight tracks, including the viral hits ‘rollerblade’ and ‘work,’ alongside seven previously unreleased songs.
The group, consisting of members Baila, Shaz, Christy, and Esther, utilizes a signature sound they call ‘Island Pop.’ This genre blends tropical Indonesian elements—such as gamelan motifs, ceng-ceng cymbals, and the sounds of city minibuses—with global influences like 1980s R&B, dangdut, new jack swing, and synth-funk.
Filmed in locations including Jakarta and Yogyakarta, the video aims to showcase Indonesia’s natural landscapes and urban culture. The upcoming 15-track album will explore themes of romance, femininity, and sisterhood.
