No Tav activist Guido Fissore says all participants share responsibility for Chiomonte clashes

At a press conference in Venaus, veteran No Tav activist Guido Fissore, aged over 80, rejected the media narrative that only Black Bloc groups were responsible for the violence that broke out during the protest march toward the Chiomonte rail‑construction site. He said thousands of demonstrators walked the route and “we are all responsible,” recalling similar incidents in 2011.

Fissore emphasized that while not everyone throws stones at police, the decision to enter the construction zone was collectively taken. He was joined by local councilor Franco Olivero Fugera, who criticised the police presence, and by Matilde, a young No Tav member, who highlighted the youthful character of the movement. The activists also noted the recent visit of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Interior Minister Gianni Piantedosi to the Chiomonte site, calling it a sign of the opposition’s weakness.

The statements underline No Tav’s stance against dividing protesters into “good” and “bad” categories and its continued opposition to the high‑speed rail project.
