Noah Kahan Denounces White House Use of ‘American Cars’ in Trump GM Plant Post
The White House posted an Instagram carousel and a TikTok video showing President Donald Trump touring a General Motors test facility in Michigan and set the footage to folk‑pop singer Noah Kahan’s song “American Cars.” Kahan replied in the comments that he would never approve his music being used to support Trump or his administration, and co‑writer Noah Levine added a profane rebuttal. Following the backlash, the track was removed from the Instagram post but remained in the TikTok version. White House officials defended the choice, saying the song was part of the platform’s public music library and therefore usable by anyone. Deputy Assistant to the President Kaelan Dorr responded to Kahan with a mocking tweet referencing Kahan’s own song “Northern Attitude.” The dispute joins a growing list of artists – including Katy Perry, Olivia Rodrigo and others – who have publicly objected to the Trump administration’s use of their music without permission.
