Noah Okafor withdraws from Switzerland national team

Leeds United forward Noah Okafor has announced his indefinite withdrawal from the Switzerland national team, stating he will not play for the squad as long as Murat Yakin remains head coach.

In a statement shared on Instagram, the 26-year-old emphasized that his decision is not based on a lack of playing time, despite appearing for only 19 minutes during the World Cup against Algeria. Instead, Okafor cited a profound breakdown in trust and respect, claiming that commitments were not kept and that he was treated poorly following minor mistakes during his limited appearance.

The Swiss Football Association confirmed the decision, noting they respect Okafor’s choice to step away for the time being. While Okafor acknowledged Yakin’s historical successes with the team, he stated he sees no foundation for a continued relationship under the current management.
