Nobel Foundation increases prize value to record 12 million kronor
The Nobel Foundation has announced an increase in the value of the Nobel Prize to 12 million Swedish kronor (over 1 million euros), up from the previous 11 million. This marks the highest nominal value in the award's 125-year history.
Hanna Stjaerne, head of the Nobel Foundation, stated that the increase is intended to ensure the financial dimension of the prize maintains its real value over time. The foundation manages the fund established by Alfred Nobel by investing in global stock markets.
The 2026 laureates are scheduled to be announced between October 5 and October 12 in Stockholm, with medicine traditionally being the first field announced. The Nobel Peace Prize will be awarded in Oslo.
