Nobel Prize gender disparities highlighted by historical exclusions

The Nobel Prize continues to bring scientific discoveries to the forefront of public attention, yet questions remain regarding gender representation among laureates. While the awards recognize extraordinary contributions, historical precedents show that many women who made fundamental discoveries were excluded from the prize.

Notable examples include Lise Meitner, who co-explained nuclear fission but was not awarded the 1944 Nobel Prize in Chemistry; Chien-Shiung Wu, whose experiments proved a fundamental break in nature's symmetry but was overlooked for the 1957 Physics prize; and Jocelyn Bell Burnell, who discovered pulsars but saw the 1974 Physics prize awarded to her supervisors.
