Nobelbanan railway route proposed to pass through Karlskoga
Following a two-year investigation, the proposed Nobelbanan railway route between Örebro and Kristinehamn has been recommended to pass through Karlskoga. The project, a collaboration between the public company Oslo–Stockholm 2.55 AB and Trafikverket, suggests a route known as the 'black alternative.'
This specific route is proposed to follow the E18 from Örebro, cross Lake Möckeln, and include a new station in southern Karlskoga near Storängen. The line would then connect to the Värmlandsbanan north of Kristinehamn. The recommendation is based on the route providing the shortest travel time, reaching the highest number of passengers, and offering the most significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.
If implemented, the new railway could reduce travel time between Karlstad and Örebro to approximately 33 minutes. The investigation included extensive public consultation, featuring over 1,100 visitors and 500 consultation responses.
