Nobisuke Nobi's income exceeds historical Japanese averages
Analysis of the original manga details reveals that Nobisuke Nobi, the father of Nobita in the Doraemon series, earned a higher income than typically perceived by readers. While often depicted as a common office worker in a modest household, his earnings were significant relative to the economic standards of his time.
In 1969, when the series debuted, Nobisuke earned approximately 2.16 million yen annually, or about 180,000 yen per month. This was nearly 2.7 times the average Japanese office worker's annual income of 810,000 yen at that time. In later editions where the setting was updated, his salary was adjusted to between 6 and 6.5 million yen per year, which is higher than the average annual salary for Japanese men aged 35 to 41.
