Nobita's Doraemon Room: A 10‑Square‑Metre Hideaway in Japanese Manga

Nobita Nobi’s bedroom on the second floor of the Nobi house measures roughly six tatami mats, or just under 10 square metres. The modest space includes a study desk, a bed, and the iconic wall‑mounted closet where Doraemon sleeps and stores his gadgets. Throughout the Doraemon series the room serves as the central meeting place for Nobita, his friends Jaian and Suneo, and the robot cat.

Design details have shifted over the decades. Early versions featured a traditional Japanese sliding door and a desk facing south; later adaptations replaced the sliding door with a Western‑style opening and rotated the desk eastward, while expanding the wall closet. These subtle changes reflect evolving depictions of Japanese family housing while preserving the room’s familiar, cozy atmosphere.
