Nobu Malibu chef killed in Malibu car crash

Ryo Uchimiya, a 51-year-old sushi chef who had worked at Nobu Malibu for 25 years, was killed in a vehicle collision on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu on Saturday morning. The incident occurred around 7 a.m. when a 16-year-old driver operating a Range Rover SUV veered across the road’s fog line and struck Uchimiya’s parked vehicle on the shoulder.

Uchimiya had arrived early to rest before a catering job in Santa Monica and was sleeping in his car at the time of the impact. The collision, which involved multiple vehicles, caused Uchimiya to succumb to “multiple blunt force injuries” at the scene.

Authorities from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated that the teenager appeared to be speeding but showed no signs of intoxication. The Range Rover involved in the crash is reportedly leased to composer Harry Gregson-Williams. While the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, no immediate charges have been filed. The stretch of highway where the accident occurred is noted for being a high-speed and dangerous area.
