Kyumei Byoto 24-ji returns after 13 years with new cast members
The popular medical drama series ‘Kyumei Byoto 24-ji’ (ER 24 Hours) is returning for its sixth installment after a 13-year hiatus. Premiering on October 12 on Fuji TV, the new series features Yosuke Eguchi and Nanako Matsushima in dual lead roles. The production marks a significant shift as the series moves to the prestigious ‘Getsu 9’ Monday night slot.
Returning cast members include Shunsuke Kazama, who reprises his role as Dr. Itsuki Hirose, now promoted from a trainee to a department chief. Nobuyuki Suzuki has also joined the cast as a key physician character. The narrative will explore modern medical challenges, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and recent work-style reforms affecting doctors' hours and professional values.
Producer Ryotaro Adachi stated that the series aims to depict the complex realities of the medical field without relying on simple generational conflicts. Instead, the show will portray the diverse perspectives of veteran doctors and younger staff navigating a changing healthcare landscape.
