Nocera Inferiore apartment fire causes evacuations and illness

A large fire broke out in an apartment on the first floor of a building in Piazza Trieste e Trento, near the railway station in Nocera Inferiore, Salerno, on the evening of Saturday, October 24.

The blaze produced a dense cloud of black smoke that quickly filled the building's stairwell and upper floors, making the air unbreathable in common areas and several apartments. Due to the smoke, some residents were unable to use the stairs and sought refuge on balconies while waiting for rescue.

Firefighters from the Nocera Inferiore and Sarno detachments responded with water tankers, aerial ladder platforms to reach trapped residents, and breathing apparatus for emergency workers. Several individuals suffered from smoke inhalation or shock and received medical assistance from emergency services. Authorities are currently working to secure the area, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
