NOC*NSF to skip administrative presence at Dakar Youth Olympics
The Dutch Olympic Committee (NOC*NSF) has announced it will not send an administrative delegation to the upcoming Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal. The decision is based on three primary factors: the participation of Russia under its own flag, Senegalese legislation regarding LGBTQ+ rights which does not align with NOC*NSF principles, and high costs. The organization noted that because Russia will participate under its own flag, Dutch officials would not be present during ceremonial moments.
Despite the absence of administrative officials, TeamNL has presented its roster of six young athletes for the event, which runs from October 31 to November 13. The participants include Liz Thijssen (boxing), David Kitoyan (breaking), Frederique Meijerse (archery), Tijmen Overbeek (skateboarding), and the beach volleyball duo Jara Both and Matilda de Groot. This event marks the first time an Olympic sporting event will be held on African soil.
