Nocterra Brewing Co. abruptly closes both Ohio locations

Nocterra Brewing Co. has abruptly ceased operations at both of its locations in the Columbus, Ohio, area. The shutdown affects the company’s flagship brewery in Powell and its recently expanded taproom and restaurant at Scioto Audubon Metro Park.

Co-founder Bryan Duncan stated in an email to employees that the business is “on hiatus as we work to find the final path for Nocterra,” noting that the company has “run out of runway to keep fighting” despite exhausting all available resources. While the immediate closure was sudden, the owners have not yet confirmed if the shutdown is permanent or if the company will attempt to reopen after addressing leases and equipment.

Founded in 2018, Nocterra expanded in June 2024 with a 5,000-square-foot facility. The closure occurs amid broader challenges in the craft beer sector; according to the Brewers Association, national craft production fell 4 percent in 2025, with brewery closings outpacing new openings.
