Noctua and Forced Physics partner on micro-channel PC cooling research

Noctua and Forced Physics DCT have entered into a long-term research partnership to investigate the application of JouleForce micro-channel arrays for desktop PCs and workstations. This patented technology aims to achieve high-performance cooling using only air, potentially eliminating the need for liquid cooling systems, pumps, or hoses by transferring heat through numerous narrow channels.

A primary technical hurdle is the extremely high static pressure required to overcome the resistance within the micro-channels. Current pressure losses exceed the capabilities of standard axial PC fans by an order of magnitude, currently necessitating industrial blowers or vacuum pumps that are too loud and bulky for consumer use. The collaboration will focus on researching ways to either reduce the required pressure or develop more compact, quiet components capable of generating the necessary airflow while ensuring proper sealing to prevent air bypass.
