Noctua fans integrated into CAIM1 prototype camera

Josh Cowell has developed a prototype camera named CAIM1 (Counter Artificial Intelligence Machine 1) that utilizes a Noctua NF-A4x10 5V PWM fan to manage thermal issues during high-performance tasks.

The CAIM1 is designed to record 4K video at 60 FPS while simultaneously generating cryptographic proof to verify the authenticity of the captured images. This dual process causes significant hardware heating, which can lead to dropped frames if not properly cooled.

To address this, the Noctua fan was selected for its ability to provide effective cooling without excessive noise that could disrupt audio recordings, or vibrations that might interfere with the image sensor. The prototype features a 3D-printed housing and is expected to be showcased at Ethereum Tokyo Week and Pragma Tokyo 2026.
