Noctua finds 56 of 100 tested PC cases have inaccurate clearance specs
The hardware manufacturer Noctua has conducted independent measurements on 100 popular computer cases, discovering that 56 of them do not match their official manufacturer specifications regarding CPU cooler clearance.
While some discrepancies are positive—such as the Corsair Frame 4000D providing 180 mm of space instead of the advertised 170 mm—others present significant compatibility risks. For instance, the Lian Li B4-mATX was measured at 164.5 mm despite an official specification of 168 mm, which can prevent the installation of large coolers like the NH-D15 G2. Similarly, the ASUS Prime AP201 showed a deficit of approximately 1.7 mm.
To assist users, particularly those building in Small Form Factor (SFF) or Mini-ITX configurations where millimeters are critical, Noctua is adding its own verified measurements to its compatibility database. This tool will allow users to identify cases with officially controlled dimensions to avoid installation issues.
