Noel Devine arrested on felony strangulation charge

Noel Devine, a 38-year-old assistant running backs coach and offensive analyst for West Virginia University, has been arrested and charged with one felony count of strangulation. Devine was booked into the North Central Regional Jail on Sunday afternoon in Monongalia County.

Following the arrest, head coach Rich Rodriguez announced that Devine has been placed on indefinite leave from the Mountaineer football coaching staff. Rodriguez stated that future decisions regarding Devine’s status will be made once more information is available.

A former standout player for the Mountaineers, Devine holds several program records, including career all-purpose yardage. His bond has been set at $40,000, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 23.
