Noh theater workshops held in Kyoto and Namba City

Traditional Noh theater performances and educational workshops are being held in the Kyoto region to deepen public understanding of the ancient performing art.

In Kyoto City, a beginner-friendly Noh workshop is scheduled for October 4, 2026, at the Former Mitsui Family Shimogamo Villa, a designated Important Cultural Property. The program, led by Noh actor Ryoichi Arimatsu, includes explanations of Noh terminology and poetry, live demonstrations of chanting (utai), and a hands-on experience for participants. The event is held in the villa's second-floor tatami room and includes matcha and sweets.

Additionally, an event titled ‘Invitation to Noh’ was held on September 6 in Namba City, Kyoto Prefecture. During this session at the Yokota Community Center, professional Noh actors performed dances and provided demonstrations to help attendees experience the art form through its 650-year-old language.
