Noi Bai Airport launches biometric kiosk check‑in system

Vietnam's Noi Bai International Airport has deployed a facial‑recognition kiosk check‑in system at Terminal 1 for domestic flights. Passengers who have completed online check‑in, hold a boarding pass and a chip‑embedded national ID card can scan the card, scan the ID, and look into a camera; the system verifies identity in under 10 seconds and opens an automatic gate. About 2,000–3,000 travelers use the kiosks each day, reducing queues during the summer peak when the airport handles up to 120,000 passengers daily. The technology does not replace standard security screening; after the biometric gate, passengers still pass through X‑ray and body‑scanner checks. The service is currently limited to Vietnamese citizens aged 16 and over; foreign travelers, children and those without a chip‑enabled ID must use traditional counters. Staff are on hand to assist first‑time users.
