Noi Moderati suspends itself from Sicilian center-right coalition
The center-right coalition supporting the Schifani government in Sicily is facing internal tension following the decision by the Noi Moderati party to self-suspend from the majority.
The split occurred after a regional summit in Rome regarding the upcoming budget maneuvers. Noi Moderati leaders, including Massimo Dell’Utri and Saverio Romano, criticized the financial plan for failing to address critical issues such as healthcare and precarious employment. The party specifically contested the distribution of resources, labeling it a “rain of resources” (risorse a pioggia) intended for individual deputies' territorial projects rather than structural solutions for the island's social emergencies.
As a result of this disagreement, the party has instructed regional deputy Marianna Caronia to withhold her vote on the budget maneuver unless the concerns regarding precarious workers—some of whom earn less than 800 euros per month—are addressed. The suspension will remain in effect until the party receives clear responses regarding its role within the regional coalition.
Meanwhile, the center-left opposition is accelerating its own efforts to define an electoral program ahead of upcoming regional elections, aiming to present a synthesis of their platform by October.
