Noicattaro wildlife attacks prompt emergency task force and drone searches
A specialized task force has been established in the province of Bari, Italy, to locate and capture a wild animal, suspected to be a wolf or a wolf-dog hybrid, following three attacks on children in Noicattaro.
The incidents occurred on August 4 and August 15, involving three minors. One six-year-old girl was hospitalized in intensive care, while another six-year-old boy was treated for chest injuries and remains under observation. Mayor Raimondo Innamorato confirmed that both children are currently in stable condition.
Authorities are utilizing drones, thermal cameras, night vision, and photo traps to track the animal. Recent sightings have been reported in the neighboring municipality of Cellamare and in the fields of Bitonto, though officials are investigating whether these sightings involve the same individual. Puglia Regional President Antonio Decaro has authorized the capture of the animal.
In response to the perceived serious danger, Mayor Innamorato has implemented emergency measures, including the nighttime closure of municipal parks and restrictions on accessing green areas near agricultural zones. Local police, Carabinieri, and civil protection volunteers are assisting in increased surveillance efforts.
