Noicattaro extends emergency safety measures due to wolf presence
The Mayor of Noicattaro, Raimondo Innamorato, has extended emergency safety measures until August 31 to address the ongoing presence of a wild wolf in the area. The decision follows serious incidents, including reports of a wild animal attacking three children between August 4 and August 15.
The extended ordinance includes several restrictions to ensure public safety and facilitate tracking and capture operations:
• The municipal park and public green spaces near agricultural areas are closed from 21:00 until the following morning. • Recreational activities, camping, and transit are prohibited in agricultural zones and 'lame' (natural depressions). • Walking pets near agricultural areas is restricted during nighttime hours. • There is an absolute ban on distributing pet food outside of private residences to avoid attracting predators.
The situation has prompted political debate within the Puglia Regional Council. Regional Councilor Tommaso Scatigna has called for structural regional interventions and the immediate discussion of a regional bill to manage wolf presence in urban and extra-urban areas.
