Noicattaro wolf attacks confirmed by DNA analysis

An inter-institutional task force met at the Prefecture in Bari to manage the presence of wolves in Noicattaro following recent attacks on minors. DNA testing conducted on clothing from a child attacked on August 15 confirmed the presence of DNA from a young male Apennine wolf.

Regional Councilor for Agriculture and Rural Development, Francesco Paolicelli, stated that the strategy remains unchanged, with intensified monitoring and increased human and instrumental resources to improve identification and capture operations. Camera trap images have confirmed the presence of multiple specimens in the area, prompting efforts to distinguish the specific animal exhibiting anomalous behavior.
