Noida elevated road closure causes major traffic disruptions
A significant section of the elevated road in Noida, stretching from Sector 62 towards Sector 18, has been closed for at least one week following the emergence of a massive pothole. The damage has exposed iron reinforcement beneath the road surface, marking the second such structural failure on this Rs 450 crore stretch within a single week.
The closure has caused substantial traffic congestion for commuters traveling between Ghaziabad, Greater Noida West, and Noida’s residential sectors. Local police have advised motorists to use alternative routes, such as the MP-2 road or routes via Sector 52 and City Centre, though heavy congestion is expected on these secondary roads.
Authorities have initiated a technical investigation to address concerns regarding construction quality and maintenance. IIT Roorkee and the Bridge Corporation are scheduled to conduct a formal inspection of the damaged stretch to determine the cause of the structural failures. A previous major failure in September 2026 also prompted an investigation that remains pending.
