NOIRLab releases detailed images of the Pleiades and star-forming regions

NOIRLab has released high-detail astronomical images capturing diverse cosmic phenomena, including the Pleiades star cluster and various star-forming regions.

One image, captured by the Dark Energy Camera on the Víctor M. Blanco telescope at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile, displays a mix of newborn stars and ancient stars. The shot reveals a cosmic nursery where gas and dust glow due to intense radiation from young stars, alongside a small yellow gas cloud containing a star located 430 light-years from Earth.

Another detailed mosaic was produced using the WIYN 0.9-meter telescope at Kitt Peak in Arizona. This image provides a panoramic view of the Pleiades (the Seven Sisters), highlighting the blue nebula that surrounds the young star cluster. The photograph was created by combining observations in blue, green, and red filters to provide a high-sensitivity representation of the cluster.
