Nokia and NVIDIA partner to develop commercial AI-RAN in Europe
Nokia and NVIDIA are collaborating to advance AI-RAN (Artificial Intelligence Radio Access Network) technology, aiming to integrate artificial intelligence directly into the daily operations of radio access networks. This partnership combines Nokia’s anyRAN software with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing systems to enhance 5G and 5G Advanced networks, while preparing infrastructure for the eventual transition to 6G.
The strategy focuses on bringing AI computation closer to where data is generated, allowing operators to better utilize their spectrum and support more demanding services. Several European operators are already conducting trials, with a target of 2027 to validate commercial services.
In a separate development, NVIDIA introduced the DSX POD, a modular reference design for AI factories based on the Vera Rubin architecture. This design aims to significantly reduce the time required to set up AI infrastructure, potentially shortening installation periods from six months to just 14 days. Global shipments of these modular systems are expected to begin in early 2027.
