Italy corruption investigations target officials and entrepreneurs
Multiple judicial investigations in Italy have targeted public officials and business owners for corruption, embezzlement, and illegal waste management.
In the Naples area, a municipal official in San Paolo Belsito, Antonietta De Rosa, has been suspended for one year and faces a €150,000 asset seizure. She is accused of embezzlement for allegedly issuing fictitious payment mandates to herself between 2022 and 2026.
In Marcianise, entrepreneur Dante Salzillo has been ordered into custody following allegations of bribery related to high-speed rail (TAV) construction contracts. Investigators claim he violated house arrest conditions by continuing to manage his company, Areco, through intermediaries.
In Sicily, the Caltanissetta Prosecutor's Office has notified 14 individuals, including politicians and entrepreneurs, of investigations into rigged public contracts and bribes in the Sommatino municipality. Additionally, investigations have concluded regarding the illegal trafficking of waste at the Timpazzo landfill, involving 45 individuals, including former managers of the waste management company Impianti Srr.
In Avellino, the Guardia di Finanza is investigating the municipality of Flumeri for an alleged €1.47 million loss to the public treasury due to irregular tax collection service contracts.
