Nollywood Director Dimbo Atiya Passes Away at 52
Acclaimed Nigerian filmmaker Dimbo Atiya died at age 52, reportedly from a heart attack. The news was first shared on social media by producer Seun Oloketuyi, followed by tributes from Nollywood stars Ali Nuhu, Stella Damasus, Mofe Duncan and others.
Atiya, born in Nasarawa State and raised in Jos, was known for championing northern Nigerian culture through high‑end political thrillers and family dramas. His most celebrated works include the series Sons of the Caliphate, Halita, The Rishantes (which won the 2022 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award), and the feature film Still Falling. Over his career he produced more than 500 television episodes and created jobs for hundreds of actors and crew members through his company Innovative Television Kontents.
His death has been described as a major loss for Nollywood, with colleagues recalling his mentorship and his role in bringing regional talent to a national and international audience.
