Nomad Foods to close Irida fish processing plant in Daruvar
The Irida fish processing plant in Daruvar, Croatia, will cease production by the end of this year. The decision was made by British company Nomad Foods, which owns the Croatian company Ledo.
The closure will affect 150 employees and their families. As one of the city's largest employers, the plant's shutdown is viewed by Daruvar Mayor Damir Lneniček as a significant blow to the local economy. While the Daruvar facility accounts for less than five percent of the group's total fish product production, its impact on the local community is substantial.
Nomad Foods stated the decision followed a detailed business analysis and is part of a broader productivity enhancement program. Eduardo Bašijega, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Nomad Foods, noted that the company is aware of the difficulty of the decision and plans to hold discussions with employees and their representatives in the coming weeks.
Labor unions expressed surprise at the announcement, noting that the closure was not previously signaled despite ongoing discussions regarding a new collective agreement.
