Nomura Asset Management to host seminar on memory investment and travel

Nomura Asset Management and JR East’s ‘Otona no Kyujitsu Club’ will co-host a seminar titled ‘Memory Investment and Travel Seminar’ on October 14, 2026, in Tokyo. The event focuses on the concept of ‘memory investment’—the strategic use of accumulated assets to fund enriching life experiences, such as travel and family time, rather than solely focusing on wealth accumulation.

A survey of 1,000 individuals in their 60s and 70s revealed that travel is the top expenditure for creating lasting memories (59.8%), with railways being the preferred mode of transport (54.2%). The seminar aims to address the balance between preparing for the future and enjoying the present.

Complementing this focus on asset utilization, discussions around wealth and lifestyle emphasize the finite nature of time. Authors such as Chris Gilbey highlight that while money can be re-earned, time cannot. This perspective suggests that true wealth involves considering the time sacrificed to earn money and prioritizing experiences that contribute to long-term happiness.
