Non-alcoholic beverage trends rise amid health and wellness demand

The hospitality and beverage industries are seeing a significant shift toward sophisticated non-alcoholic beverage programs. Driven largely by Gen Z demand and a focus on wellness, caterers and event planners are moving away from simple juice options toward premium, creative alcohol-free menus that offer the same level of hospitality as traditional cocktails.

As mocktail menus evolve, some establishments are incorporating botanicals such as kava and kratom to provide specific effects like relaxation or energy. However, medical experts warn of potential risks associated with these substances. Dr. Joseph D’Orazio, a medical toxicologist at Cooper University Health Care, notes that highly concentrated versions of these plants can lead to impairment, liver problems, dependence, or withdrawal, risks that may be overlooked due to the healthy aura of plant-based, alcohol-free branding.
