NoName057(16) launches renewed DDoS campaign against Japanese targets

The pro-Russian hacktivist collective NoName057(16) has launched a renewed DDoS campaign against Japanese targets, designated as #OpJapan. The group cites Japan’s ongoing support for Ukraine and NATO as the primary motivation for the attacks.

Between August 24 and August 30, the group claimed to have conducted 66 attacks against 26 distinct Japanese organizations. The targets include state and public-sector entities, such as government portals and municipal websites, as well as private companies. The shipping and logistics sector has been identified as the most frequently targeted industry.

The campaign has seen participation from other groups, including the pro-Palestinian hacktivist collective Dark Storm Team. While the majority of the activity consists of DDoS attacks aimed at high-load site functions like login pages and inquiry forms, the group also claimed a single unauthorized access to a commercial parking facility's surveillance system. No evidence of data theft, website defacement, or backend breaches has been confirmed.
