Nonghyup Bank employee prevents 410 million KRW voice phishing scam

A Nonghyup Bank employee in Gwangju successfully prevented a voice phishing scam involving approximately 410 million KRW. The incident occurred when a customer in her 60s visited the Gwangsan branch requesting a large transfer, claiming the funds were needed for a daughter who had fallen victim to a rental fraud scam.

Cho Min-kyung, the bank clerk on duty, became suspicious due to the unusual transaction pattern and the customer's aggressive reaction when questioned about the purpose of the transfer. Cho immediately reported the suspicious activity to the Gwangsan Police Station.

Upon arrival, police officers spent about an hour persuading the customer, who was initially resistant and defensive. After discovering a second mobile phone containing malicious applications, officers confirmed the voice phishing attempt and halted the transfer. Gwangsan Police Station Chief Kim Man-su presented Cho with a letter of appreciation and a reward to recognize her quick thinking and cooperation.
