Nonthaburi luxury home fire kills couple and nearly 30 cats

A fatal fire at a luxury residence in Nonthaburi province, Thailand, resulted in the deaths of a man and a woman, believed to be a married couple, and nearly 30 pet cats. The incident occurred in the early hours of August 17.

Firefighters from the Bang Si Mueang and Bang Krang municipalities brought the blaze under control within approximately 30 minutes. While the second floor of the two-storey home was heavily damaged, the ground floor remained largely untouched by flames. However, investigators discovered traces of petrol poured across the ground floor and a 20-litre fuel container near the stairs.

The victims were found in a second-floor bedroom. Due to the intensity of the fire, their identification documents were destroyed, and authorities are working with housing estate management to confirm their identities. Only two cats were rescued from the scene and transported to an animal hospital. Police and forensic experts from the Central Institute of Forensic Medicine are investigating the cause of the fire, focusing on the presence of the fuel and the charcoal stove found in the bathroom.
