Noord-Brabant to invest €150 million in home sustainability

The province of Noord-Brabant intends to invest €150 million into the National Heat Fund (Nationaal Warmtefonds) to support residential sustainability. This funding, sourced from the proceeds of the sale of energy company Essent, aims to provide loans for measures such as insulation, solar panels, and heat pumps. Approximately 13,000 households in the province are expected to benefit from lower energy costs through these measures.

Separately, research indicates that Dutch household energy bills are projected to rise by 10 percent over the next five years. Most households may face annual increases of €400 to €600 by 2031. This rise is largely attributed to increasing grid costs required for network reinforcement, the end of the net metering scheme (salderingsregeling), and new pricing for fossil fuels. While those using heat pumps may see a significant percentage increase in their electricity bills, they are still expected to have lower overall costs compared to those relying on traditional central heating boilers.
