Noord-Holland launches matchfunding pilot for creative talent

The province of Noord-Holland is launching a pilot program to support creative talent through a ‘matchfunding’ initiative in collaboration with Stichting Voordekunst. The program aims to assist emerging and developing makers in their artistic and professional growth, specifically targeting projects such as new performances, exhibitions, films, publications, or music projects.

Under the pilot, which runs until December 2026, the province has allocated a maximum of €50,000. Makers who launch a crowdfunding campaign via Voordekunst and meet specific criteria can receive a provincial contribution. If a project has already raised 30% of its target through crowdfunding, the province may contribute up to 30% of the target amount, with a maximum contribution of €5,000 per project.

Deputy Jeroen Olthof stated that the initiative is intended to provide a ‘nudge toward cultural maturity’ and strengthen entrepreneurship among artists, rather than providing lifelong subsidies. To qualify, projects must be executed in Noord-Holland, contribute to professional development, and fall within sectors such as visual arts, dance, literature, music, or performing arts. The program is also restricted to those not receiving support from the Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst.
