Noordwijk council opposes stricter social housing registration rules

A majority of the Noordwijk municipal council is opposing new, stricter regulations introduced by the housing organization Huren in Holland Rijnland. Under the new rules effective September 1, individuals who fail to pay their social housing registration fees on time will be immediately deregistered, resulting in the total loss of all accumulated registration time.

Previously, late payers were placed on a provisional deregistration list, allowing them to file an objection to maintain their status. The new policy removes this recourse. A coalition of six political parties, representing 15 of the 29 council seats, has submitted a motion to the executive board to restore the possibility of appeal. These parties argue that administrative errors, illness, or personal circumstances could lead to accidental non-payment, and they also expressed concerns regarding the loss of the ability to transfer registration years to a partner.
