Nora Souza turns sustainable crafts into a business via community workshops
Nora Souza, a 63-year-old homemaker and atypical mother, has successfully transitioned from using sustainable crafts as a hobby to establishing a source of income. Her journey began after participating in free workshops offered by the Fundo de Apoio à Comunidade (FAC) at the Buriti Neighborhood Community Center.
The FAC workshops focus on creative and circular economy, providing training in sustainable crafts, embroidery, and sewing. These programs aim to foster financial autonomy and talent discovery among individuals in situations of social vulnerability. To date, more than 300 people have received free training through these initiatives.
Led by instructor Maria do Carmo, the courses cover entrepreneurship, cooperativism, and income generation. Souza has already begun selling her creations, including football-themed items, which have gained popularity and led to new business orders.
