NORAD fighter jet intercepts aircraft near Camp David
A NORAD F-16 fighter jet intercepted a general aviation aircraft that entered restricted airspace over Thurmont, Maryland, near Camp David on Saturday morning at approximately 7:50 a.m.
The incident occurred while President Donald Trump was staying at the presidential retreat. The First Air Force, operating under U.S. Northern Command, reported that flares were deployed during the interception to draw the pilot's attention and communicate with them. Officials stated that the use of flares is a standard procedure and poses no danger to people on the ground.
The aircraft was safely escorted out of the restricted area. Authorities have provided no indication that the flight posed a deliberate threat to the President or the facility. Following the event, military officials reminded civilian pilots to check Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) to ensure they are aware of temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) in their area.
