NORAD Intercepts Multiple General Aviation Aircraft Over New Jersey
On July 19, more than ten general‑aviation aircraft entered a temporary flight restriction (TFR) area over Bedminster and East Rutherford, New Jersey, during the FIFA World Cup final weekend. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) dispatched F‑16 fighter jets, intercepting three of the violators and deploying safety flares to attract pilots’ attention. All aircraft were safely escorted out of the restricted airspace.
NORAD advises pilots to monitor emergency frequencies 121.5 MHz or 243.0 MHz and reverse course if intercepted, and urges checking NOTAMs and TFR notices before flight. The incident caused no danger to people on the ground.
